Others say my style combines natural warmth and curiosity with an insightful and well-trained understanding. Hopefully, you will find yourself comfortable to express yourself fully, sensing that you will be heard and attended to without an agenda. You'll be in the hands of a skilled clinician capable of helping you find a way through your current challenge.
My approach begins with open-ended questions that gives you an opportunity to be full-heartedly heard and helps me understand you. Deep listening and empathy will support your exploration and healing. I will also explain my perspective on sorting out your challenges – giving you an opportunity to ask questions and make sure it fits your needs.
As your work deepens, I help you see your experiences and behaviors as "parts" of yourself that need compassionate understanding. These parts, explored with safety and caring, begin the process of healing and learning to recognize and care for your needs in a new way. Although the idea of “parts” may seem unusual when reading these words, my experience with numerous clients shows that the process is both natural and intuitive. It also brings an immediate sense of relief. Healthy perspectives and personal solutions arise naturally through the process. Negative thought patterns and behaviors simply diminish over time.
My Background
After college at the University of Pennsylvania, and extensive travel abroad, I was a 14-year leader, teacher and counselor at Kripalu Center for Yoga and Health, the country’s largest personal growth facility. The experience and insight from countless hours of my own meditation and personal introspection - as well as training others in these areas – support my work as counselor.
On a more personal level, I moved to Durango, Colorado in 1994. I’ve been married for over twenty years and have two teenage children. I received a M.A. in Counseling from Adams State College, passed boards as Nationally Certified Counselor (NCC), and recieved my Licensed Professional Counselor (LPC) designation from the State of Colorado. Most important to my work with clients, I completed both levels of training as an Internal Family Systems (IFS) therapist and have recieved intensive training and internship in child and family counseling.
